ORISSA (ODISHA) TOURIST PLACES-1 HIRAKUD DAM Hirakud Dam is built across the Mahanadi River, about 15 kilometres from Sambalpur in the state of Odisha in India. Behind the dam extends a lake, Hirakud Reservoir, 55 km long. Though one is not allowed to actually go on the dam bridge, one can enjoy the scenic beauty from well chosen high points. Absolutely breathtaking views. Winter and evening times are the best. Lets you spend good 1-2 hours there. This dam is inaugurated by India’s first Prime Minister late Jawaharlal Neheru.
